A matcha bowl with a little wildness to it.
Handmade by Seto Yaki Pottery in Seto, Japan, this chawan is finished in layers of smoky gray, warm rust brown, and soft cream. The glaze moves freely across the surface, creating unexpected patches, drips, and shifts in color that make the bowl interesting from every angle.
Its gently irregular shape and wavy rim give it an easy, handmade feel. Look inside and the same earthy colors continue, with swirls and marks from the making and firing process still visible.
Made for preparing and drinking matcha, the bowl has a comfortably open shape for whisking and feels substantial in the hands. And when you're not using it, it’s beautiful enough to simply leave out.
No two handmade pieces are exactly alike. Variations in glaze, shape, and surface are part of what makes each bowl its own.
