Japanese matcha bowl finished in a softly textured Shino glaze.
The bowl has a quiet, earthy character, with a smoky grey-white surface punctuated by warm rust and iron-toned markings created through the firing process. Simple hand-drawn decoration moves across the exterior, emerging subtly from beneath the glaze rather than sitting prominently on the surface.
Its gently irregular silhouette and softly undulating rim reveal the hand of the maker. Inside, the glaze shifts dramatically from charcoal grey and warm reddish brown to a pale, almost milky center—making the interior as expressive as the exterior.
Shino ware is particularly loved for the unpredictable character of its glaze and the way firing leaves subtle variations across the surface. Here, those imperfections become part of the beauty of the piece: understated, tactile, and completely individual.
Made for preparing and drinking matcha, it is equally compelling displayed as an individual work of Japanese ceramic craft.
